In 2021, Turning Point USA, alongside some of its most generous supporters, initiated the Missy Shorey Scholarship, providing female conservative high school students with a remarkable chance to attend the Young Women’s Leadership Summit (YWLS) in San Antonio, Texas. This scholarship comprehensively covers all associated costs for students, including conference fees, event tickets, lodging, and travel assistance.
Founded in 2012 by Charlie Kirk, TPUSA is a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government.
At YWLS, students immerse themselves in a dynamic experience featuring inspiring guest speakers, top-notch activism, and leadership training. They engage in networking sessions with political leaders and premier activist organizations, gaining invaluable insights and connections. Energized by this transformative experience, attendees return to their campuses armed with the tools and training to passionately defend conservatism.
Past YWLS speakers include notable figures such as TPUSA Contributor and POPlitics host Alex Clark, former National Press Secretary to President Trump Kayleigh McEnany, Judge Jeanine Pirro, Blexit Founder Candace Owens, and former Senior Adviser to President Trump Lara Trump!
On April 24, 2019, the world was dimmed by the unexpected passing of Missy Shorey at the age of 47, leaving behind a legacy of brilliance, compassion, and unwavering dedication. From her early years at Countryside High School in Clearwater, Florida, Missy displayed a remarkable knack for leadership, founding the Young Republicans Club and serving as Class President during both her junior and senior years.
Her academic journey took her to the University of Florida, where she pursued her passion for political science with fervor. Not only did she excel in her studies, but she also made a lasting impact on campus life, serving as Student Body Vice-President and becoming a cherished member of Florida Blue Key, an honor society recognizing outstanding leadership.
Continuing her pursuit of excellence, Missy furthered her education at American University in Washington DC, earning an MBA that would become a testament to her commitment to continuous growth and learning.
Missy’s professional trajectory was equally impressive. From her early days on Capitol Hill as a Senate staffer, where she notably served as Communication Director for the Joint Economic Committee, to her executive roles at two of the nation’s largest public relations firms, Missy demonstrated an unparalleled blend of strategic acumen and unwavering dedication.
In 2004, Missy took the bold leap to establish Shorey Public Relations, where she served as CEO for fifteen years, leading the agency to great success and leaving an indelible mark on the industry. Her entrepreneurial spirit and innovative approach set her apart, earning her respect and admiration from colleagues and clients alike.
But Missy’s impact extended far beyond the boardroom. As Executive Director of Maggie’s List, a Federal Political Action Committee dedicated to electing conservative women to federal office, Missy worked tirelessly to amplify the voices of women in politics and pave the way for future generations of female leaders.
Her commitment to her community was further exemplified by her historic election as Chair of the Dallas County Republican Party, where she became the first woman to hold this esteemed position.
Despite her numerous professional accolades and responsibilities, Missy always made time for what truly mattered to her: her family, her friendships, and her marriage to her beloved husband. Her ability to balance her professional success with her personal life was a testament to her strength of character and unwavering values.
In honor of her memory and the extraordinary life she lived, the Shorey family and the Park Cities Republican Women (Dallas) came together to establish the Missy Shorey-Turning Point USA Scholarship. This scholarship seeks to empower young women who share Missy’s passion for conservative values, providing them with the opportunity to carry forward her legacy of energy, passion, and patriotism on high school and college campuses across the nation.
Although Missy may no longer walk among us, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her indomitable spirit, boundless compassion, and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place serve as a guiding light for us all. May her memory continue to inspire and uplift us, reminding us of the profound impact that one extraordinary individual can have on the world.
- Female high school student with at least one year until graduation date
- Attend a high school where no Turning Point USA chapter currently exists
- Strong desire and intention to start a Turning Point USA chapter at her school
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Demonstrated conservative values, activism, and leadership.
- Please note: A chaperone is required if the scholarship recipient is under 16 (not covered by scholarship).

- Your scholarship application also serves as your registration for the Young Women’s Leadership Summit. No additional application on the TPUSA website is necessary.
- Please ensure your application is submitted by Wednesday, May 1, 2024, as late submissions will not be considered.
- Notification of scholarship recipients will be sent via email by the Missy Shorey TPUSA Scholarship Committee.
- If awarded the scholarship, TPUSA staff will contact you to provide important summit logistics details, including registration confirmation, assistance with travel arrangements, hotel accommodations, etc.
- Applicants who do not meet the Missy Shorey scholarship criteria may still have an opportunity to attend the Young Women’s Leadership Summit.
